Ajania pacifica (Pacific chrysanthemum)

            Pacific chrysanthemum (Ajania pacifica) is a low spreading perennial with attractive deep green silver-edged foliage. It is native to Japan where it exists along the Honshu Island coastline and slopes. It spreads via rhizomes and can become quite aggressive if grown in good soil and provided regular water. In the late fall Pacific chrysanthemum becomes covered with attractive clusters of bright yellow button-like flowers. Once spent, these can be cut back to make best of the pretty evergreen to semi-evergreen foliage. Plant Pacific chrysanthemum in full to partial sun and average soil with good drainage. It can be quite drought and salt tolerant once established and is best grown in rock gardens or as groundcover for sunny sites. Where seasons are short, it may never bloom. In subtropical areas it may bloom twice per year, once in early summer and again in early winter.

Arbusto sempreverde, originario dell'Asia centro-meridionale, chiamato anche chrysanthemum pacificum; al genere ajania appartengono circa trenta specie di arbusti, in genere di dimensioni medie o piccole. Raggiunge circa 40-70 cm di altezza, con portamento eretto, tondeggiante; i fusti sono sottili, semilignificati, di colore verde cupo, portano numerose foglie alterne, lobate, di colore verde scuro, con bordo argenteo; la pagina inferiore delle foglie è di colore grigio-argento.
