            Gazania is a genus of flowering plants in the family Asteraceae, native to Southern Africa. It is often planted as drought-tolerant ground cover.Gazanias are grown for the brilliant colour of their flower which appear in the late spring and early summer. They prefer a sunny position and are tolerant of dryness and poor soils.

Gazania è un genere di piante erbacee e perenni della famiglia delle Asteraceae, originario dell'Africa meridionale che comprende una quarantina di specie e numerosissimi ibridi commerciali. Sono piante coltivate per la resistenza alla siccità e per la bellezza dei fiori.
Le Gazania presentano un folto apparato fogliare formato da foglie persistenti, lanugginose in alcune specie, sempre verdi nella pagina superiore e grigie argentate in quella inferiore, che da filiformi diventano spatolate e pubescenti man mano che crescono.I fiori a capolino appaiono in gran parte dell'anno, perlopiù nei mesi caldi. Essi, di diverse dimensioni a seconda della specie e dai colori gialli o rossi più o meno intensi, sono molto decorativi e riescono ad aprirsi completamente solo se sono esposti al sole, tendendo poi a richiudersi la sera. Ogni fiore, se fecondato, può produrre numerosissimi piccoli semi, fusiformi e appuntiti, caratterizzati da una corona di peli piumosi.
