Is that long distance ? - a photo on Flickriver

Fun with an old and still working telephone box on a deserted Budleigh Salterton sea front...well it would be at 2am! Just as I like it the beach all to myself.

Pressing Button B seems 'light years away' !
Sorry probably two-thirds of readers will not have a clue what I am on about !!

In the 1950's you had to put in coins to make a call in the telephone boxes before you dialled. If you were connected you pressed 'Button A' if you were not connected you pressed 'Button B' to get your money back. It was great for us post war kids to try pressing button B in the local telephone boxes to see if anyone had forgotten to press Button B and get their money back. If they had we were rewarded with 6d or more coming out of the machine. It meant a free trip to the cinema or as much sweets as you could eat that day!

Sadly you didn't hit the jackpot very often … but it was fun!
