EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM vs. EF 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5 USM

A little comparison between the two lenses (the 24-85 was kindly lent to me by alexispz).
All pictures are 100% crops, no post-processing besides that. The pictures on the left are from the EF 24-85, on the right from the EFS 17-55.

Top:
1/40s, f/4, 24mm (and 23mm on the 17-55). Also bear in mind the 17-55 is longer, maybe that's why the distances seem a little different). Shot on a tripod (actually, a chair) to not let the IS ruin the comparison (besides, I switched it off). It is just my opinion, but the 17-55 does seem to be sharper per se.

Bottom:
1/40s, f/4.5, 54mm (and 55mm on the 17-55). Shot hand-held with the IS turned on (on the 17-55). The difference is unquestionable, isn't it? (although my home-made test probably is ;p)

You should also -maybe above all?- know the 17-55 can stay at a 2.8 aperture at all times.

Conclusion: I don't regret my purchase whatsoever. :)
