new toy - sony a7ii - a photo on Flickriver

I have been waiting for this camera for quite a while. I wanted to handle it in person, not to mention throw my local camera shop some business, so I’ve been anxiously waiting for them to get a copy. The day they got it in they texted me and I went in Saturday to check it out.

As I’d hoped, the changes they’d made to the body (larger grip, shutter button move, etc.) made it a useable camera for me.

At this point, I could only afford one of the native lenses, and had been wanting a 35mm focal length, so I got the little Sony/Zeiss lens. This little lens weighs nothing, and has the oddest hood I’ve ever seen. However, my test shots prove that it is very sharp, even wide-open. I figured I could live with f/2.8 for a while, given the improved low-light performance of this sensor (over my A900, which I still love).

Since I have a decent collection of A-mount lenses, I bought the adapter with the translucent mirror focus system. It’s a bit bulky, but actually isn’t too annoying — it even feels kind of good with the Minolta 50mm f/1.7 that I like so much.
