Pastor Rosalind Tompkins-Whiteside Showing Her Joy

Turning Point Church Pastor Rosalind Tompkins-Whiteside (in the black and white outfit) is one of my she-roes. She has every reason to throw up her hands and praise God.

After breaking free of 12 years of alcohol abuse and addictions to drugs, that included crack cocaine, she earned a bachelors in social work and then started Mothers in Crisis, a Tallahassee nonprofit organization to help women addicts. She now has been drug and alcohol free for almost 20 years.

She is the author of, "As Long as There is Breath in Your Body, there is Hope," which describes how she broke free of her addictions, and "Rare Anointing," which tells of the role that suffering played in Christ's life and in our lives, and how we can apply the lessons from our sufferings to benefit others.

This was taken during the sermon at the surprise birthday party given to her Oct. 3, 2007, by Turning Point Church in Tallahassee, which she and her husband , Charles Jerome Whiteside, pastor .
