May Opens Herself to June and Magnesium

            May sat in a patch of sunlight outside the entrance to the hospital with its overwhelming swarm of viruses and germs, doctors and administrators. She wanted to believe that this place might also contain a few stray healers, but such a faith was hard to come by.

Yesterday there had been a cascade of wild mustard growing on the hill she walked up every day. Today she had seen only traces of yellow. Everything in every moment kept changing. It would be like this forever. This much she knew.

When she heard the voice inside her head and recognized it as other than her own, she was stunned but also excited. Who had just whispered into the ear of her mystical pineal gland? 

She replayed the words that had come to her:

I'm here, you're safe.
Turn left at the next corner.
Explore magnesium. 
Ignore the writing on the wall. 
Dream lucidly.
Combine the image and the message.
Repair that which is not yet irreparably broken.
Remember, you were once an alchemist.
Have faith that all is not cellular.

Earlier she had ordered huevos rancheros for breakfast, a lovely island of salsa, eggs and beans. Now, against the crackling blue retaining wall, small bursts of impeccably delicate green came into her eyes.
