Cecropia moth II

Silkworm moth. I spent all day tending to this dopey beauty, after he emerged from his cocoon. Wanted to be available to release him when he was ready to leave, so he wouldn't bash around in his container, but he never made a move to fly.
This is a male, the antennae say so. We don't know why he didn't fly off to go find females (I learned the females typically don't fly off, but stay put and wave their magic pheromone wand in the wind, and males find them from up to 2 miles away!). I actually caught him with his claspers out (see blog! mycologista.blogspot.com/2010/04/moth.html)--the helpful crew over at bugguide.net/node/view/387527 set me straight on this, as I mistook it for the female's pheromone gland, but he should have gone to FIND females, not sat there advertising his stuff.
He stayed in his open container, outside, for a week.
