"Cuando ninguno, de los abuelos de nuestros abuelos había nacido, la Tierra era un lugar en el cual, apenas el sol se escondía tras el horizonte, la gente se iba a dormir de inmediato porque todo se entenebrecía y las estrellas eran puntos celestes sin ningún brillo. En ese tiempo no existía la luna. La noche caía como una manta pesada sobre los campos y los ríos, y hasta los animales se metían en sus escondrijos hasta que amanecía.

Cuentan, que una tarde de verano, los niños jugaban junto al lago. Las madres los llamaron para que entraran a sus casas antes que la luz del sol desapareciera. Todos volvieron, menos Lathika.
Se había dormido en una roca del lago...la más brillante.
Nunca más se supo de ella, pero allí surgió un bello mirador dorado., desde el que las madres vigilaban a sus niños.... hasta el día que nació la Luna, y se convirtió en el ojo del cielo, para evitar que se perdieran"
