Immature Cooper's Hawk...Photo Four of Four

            This series of four photos was taken today.  It took some detective work, patience and stealth to photograph this hawk in the wild.  I had noticed (a few weeks ago) a tree that had fallen across a creek near Wilde Lake in Columbia, Maryland.  The tree had talon marks and a lot of the perch side bark torn off.  I figured a raptor of some kind had been using it to spy on small birds in the brambles across the creek.  I went back several times, but nothing was on the tree.  Today I struck gold.  A Immature Cooper's Hawk was perched and watching for small prey.  It took me ten minutes to get about 20 feet from the hawk and I prayed every step that this beautiful creature would not be scared off by my footsteps.  It stayed for over 200 photographs, feeling safe that I wouldn't walk into the creek and get any closer.
