Crested Screamer
Living up to its name, a crested screamer can be heard more than a mile away. Imagine the noise created when large social groups gather! They inhabit the open landscape of South American grasslands and marshes. The environment is harsh with long droughts and dust storms alternating with torrential rains and cold winters. These large birds reach a length of 75cm high.

Duck Cousins
Although their nearest relatives are ducks and geese, a quick look at these screamers reveals some obvious distinctions. Screamer feet are only slightly webbed with long toes adapted to walking over floating plants rather than swimming. The leading edge of each wing sports a pair of two-inch spurs, used against rivals and predators.

Dual Parent Families
Screamers mate for life and both males and females actively pasrticipate in building the nest, incubating eggs and raising chicks.
