Holy Rood Church, Bagworth - a photo on Flickriver

            Another Leicestershire church in a modernist style. In this case the pre-fabricated, CLASP system concrete geometry of Holy Rood in Bagworth. 
I was around the corner earlier today and so went to visit, but I'm sad to report that as threatened, the church is now gone. So here are a few snaps I took in November last year.
Ironically, the stone enclosure at the base of the separate bell tower, was actually fragments of the walls of the original, medieval church that stood on the site. The enclosure is used to store their wheelie bins. None of the concrete structure has been saved...
Churches in small villages such as Bagworth see very few attendees these days but are protected because they're usually centuries old. Where forward-thinking communities replaced their ageing churches with 20th-century designs, no such protection exists and they face an uncertain fate...
