Lights, Camera... Week 20 - a photo on Flickriver

            Something different for week 20. This week’s roll of TMax was shot through a Lomography Lomkino. Emily took her first steps last week and is, as you can see, already making great progress. This and the next couple of rolls capture this milestone in her life.

The Lomokino uses standard 35mm film but shoots 4 frames in the usual 24x36mm frame as the film is manually cranked past the shutter, giving 144 frames on a 36 exposure film. The shutter speed is 1/100s and there’s a selectable aperture (this was shot at f/8). You burn up the film as quickly or as slowly as you like by cranking at different speeds.

Strips of film are then scanned into individual frames and compiled into a film using the same process (and software) that one might for time-lapse work. Films can be added together of course to make longer movies.

The film above is actually only 75 frames (shown twice) as it looks like something jammed and I managed to rip out a few sprocket holes – that saved me a bit of scanning time at least.

Like most Lomography products, results are unpredictable (which is OK) but they’re not things you’re likely to use every day…
