Duisburg-Meiderich, Naturpark Nord, Hochofen

            Nach der Stilllegung 1985 des 1901 gebauten Thyssen Hüttenwerks in Duisburg-Meiderich blieb eine 200 Hektar Industriebrache zurück. Auf Initiative einiger Bürgervereine gegen den Abriss, und dem Projekten der Internationalen Bauausstellung Emscher Park entstand zwischen 1990 und 1999 rund um das Hüttenwerk ein Kultur-, Natur- und Freizeitpark. Der Hochofen 5 ist kurz vor der Stilllegung instand gesetzt worden und ist heute von den Besucher voll begehbar. Die oberste Plattform befindet sich in 70 m Höhe.
Following closure in 1985 of the 1901-built Thyssen-Krupp steel mill in Duisburg-Meiderich, a 200 hectare industrial site remained. On the initiative of some civil associations against the demolition, and the projects of the International Building Exhibition Emscher Park was built between 1990 and 1999 around the smelter a cultural, natural and Amusement Park. The blast furnace 5 has been repaired shortly before the closure and is now of the Visitors fully accessible. The upper platform is located at 70 m height.
