Long View - a photo on Flickriver

Long View

            A Iowa Northern train to Fairbank, Iowa crests a hill just outside of Fairbank, Iowa  The furthest crossbuck sign visible is approximately 1.6 miles away. The train was going about 10-15 mph Somewhere, Mark Llanuza has a 1976 photograph of a freight train going in the opposite direction (away from my shooting location) and shot from the same grade crossing. His photo was of a  train derailed somewhere in the sag with crew working on it. This was the former Chicago and Great Western (CNW after 1967) mainline from Kansas City to Oelwein, Iowa
