            At the toes of the motor worked No. 53 points is No.60 signal, a Great Western 1942 pattern tubular post right hand bracket signal.  This, the Up Main Inner Home, carries No. 61 Up Main Warning beneath, a now rare Great Western Calling On-type arm. This can only be cleared when approach track circuit “BBT” becomes occupied and 62 lever (for the preceding Up Main Outer Home) has been returned to Normal. This would be used when the overlap of the next signal, Up Main Starting B59, was fouled by a shunting move over 16 crossover.  This provision allowed a train to enter the platform at caution during such activities and keep the job going. 

It is easy to assume this as a regular “Calling On” arm that would allow a train into an already occupied section.  As it stands, Barry station's main line platforms are not, nor have ever been, permissively worked, though the absent Up No.1 platform was before its abolition in May 1964.

At the foot of Nos. 60 and 61 is No. 75, a BR(WR) 11 ¼” ground disc signal, reading Down and Up Main Home to Down Main, a name not often associated with disc signals. Until 26th September 1971, it read over a second route; from Down and Up Main to Through Siding.

All three signals here were brought into use in their present form on 11th May 1964 following the closure of Barry Junction signal box and remodelling of the junction.  

However, the structure is considerably older, an inheritance from Barry Junction signal box that previously carrying two other dolls, removed in the 1964 alterations. The centre of the trimmer carried a taller doll, the left hand end carrying the tallest of the three, applying to the Up Main in the manner that No.60 does now.

All these were, of course controlled by Barry Junction signal box. The warning arm did not exist yet and Barry Station signal box's fixed Up Main and Up Relief Distants were carried beneath 88 and 72 respectively. 

It should be remembered that prior to Barry Junction signal box's closure the Up and Down Main leg of the junction were over the Vale of Glamorgan and this was the Branch.
