Blue Dasher dragonfly-male (Pachydiplax longipennis)

View "LARGE" for best effect.

I have had a little time to 'chase' dragon and damselflies over the past few days. Several species are now around my garden and pond. This Blue Dasher (male) (Pachydiplax longipennis) provided particularly nice views including this hand-(or maybe feet) stand pose. This is referred to as 'obilesking', as in forming an obilesk shape.

I love the slightly purplish-blue of the abdomen contrasted with the blue-green of the eyes.

Photographed in Davidson's Mill Pond Park (at the small pond) in South Brunswick, New Jersey.

Since this dragonfly was essentially on a single focus plane, it is best to enjoy the wonderful detail large and on black.
