The Undercroft of Lincoln's Inn Chapel

Grade I listed, Open undercroft with Gothic four-centred arches, lierne-vaults and Tuscan demi-columns attached to the piers.

The undercroft was used as a burial ground from the beginnings of the Chapel's history, there are seventy eight grave slabs and the earliest is John Thurloe's 1667.
Some of the pillars still show clear marks of damage from the bomb which fell in nearby Stone Buildings during a Zeppelin air raid in 1915.


It has been used for several film locations .......

This is where Tom Jones (Albert Finney) duels with Fitzpatrick and, for his pains, ends up arrested for armed robbery, in Tony Richardson’s Oscar-winning Tom Jones.

Here, Algy (Rupert Everett) accuses Jack (Colin Firth) of being a secret Bunburyist in Oliver Parker’s The Importance Of Being Earnest, with Stone Buildings, running to the east, transformed into an Edwardian street.

The undercroft was ingeniously glazed and furnished to provide the Queen’s lodgings, where Annette Bening and Robert Downey Jr enjoy breakfast, in in Richard Loncraine’s Richard III.
