Suzume - a photo on Flickriver

Suzume

            Small old ichimatsu doll (28cm). She had lost her original kimono so I sewed her a new one from a piece of Japanese cotton fabric. Her obi is made from very wide old silk ribbon, the obi tie is some old trimming found at the flea market, and the kimono lining is made from a vintage man's handkerchief also from the flea market. She still has her original tightly wrapped paper underskirt, but any maker's marks that might have been stamped on it have faded.
She has two tiny teeth in her open mouth, I think they are little dabs of gofun.
