White bluebell barleria, Phillipine Violet, San Salvador

The White Bluebell Barleria or Phillipine violet is native to India and South – East Asia as is a member of theAcanthaceae family.   Barleria cristata (Philippine violet, bluebell barleria or crested Philippine violet), is a plant of the Acanthaceae family.  It is native to a wide area ranging from Southern China to India and Myanmar. Cultivated as an ornamental plant in villages and gardens, it has become naturalized in Hawaii, where it grows in dry habitats. In Fiji, where it is known as "tombithi" and in Christmas Island (Indian Ocean), the shrub grows also as a ruderal species along roadsides and disturbed areas from near sea level to about 100 m. It grows as a shrub 60 –100 cm tall. The leaves are dark green on the upper surface and pale green on the lower surface. They are elliptic to narrowly ovate. The flowers are about 5 cm long, funnel-shaped in violet, pink, or white color. The fruits are about 1.5 cm long ellipsoid capsules. Thy become glabrous and glossy at maturity.

Crece como un arbusto, alcanzando los 60 a 100 cm de altura. Las hojas son de color verde oscuro en el haz y de color verde pálido en el envés. Son estrechamente elípticas a ovadas. Las flores son de unos 5 cm de largo, en forma de embudo de color violeta, rosa o blanco. Los frutos son cápsulas elipsoides.
Es nativa del sur de Asia, donde se distribuye por China hasta la India y Birmania. Es cultivada como planta ornamental en los ciudades y jardines, se ha naturalizado en Hawaii, donde crece en hábitats secos. En Fiyi, donde es conocido como "tombithi" y en la Isla de Navidad (Océano Índico), la planta crece también como especie ruderal a lo largo de los caminos y las áreas perturbadas desde el nivel del mar hasta unos 100 metros.
Conocida como อังกาบ, esta planta se utiliza en Tailandia como un remedio herbal tradicional, que supuestamente actúa como tónico, diurético y purificador de la sangre.
Barleria cristata fue descrita por Carlos Linneo y publicado en Species Plantarum 2: 636. 1753.  Barleria: nombre genérico otorgado en honor del biólogo y monje dominico francés; Jacques Barrelier (1606 - 1673). Cristata: epíteto latino que significa "con cresta".

Barléria Cristata ou Violeta das Filipinas, acantácea,   muito conhecida no Brasil.  Pode também ser confundida com alfazema e jasmim devido ao seu intenso aroma quando florescendo.Need help to identify this nice bush
