Chicago Bicycling Classic 2008: Seeley and 107th

            Whoa, you can get REALLY close to the riders as they zip by this corner at Seeley and 107th Street. I found out that shooting with my flash really helps to freeze the moment, but since the shutter lasts just a bit longer than the flash, I also get some of the motion too.

About the Beverly Hills Cycling Classic

A bunch of professional bicyclists from around the world race through Beverly Hills neighborhood on the south side of Chicago. The race is mere blocks from where I grew up! The race track through the neighborhood is a little over one mile long, they go around it 50 times. 

The really cool part is that a bunch of people from the neighborhood all come and watch the race from people's lawns. You can stand on anybody's lawn and go right up to the edge of the street and literally feel the breeze. People are out there drinking and kids are playing. More people should know about this event, it should become just as popular as the south side irish parade. 

And it's really cool to be able to get some close up photos.

The Beverly Hills Cycling Classic returned in its sixth year as the kick-off event for the International Cycling Classic on July 10, 2008. More than 125 professional and elite amateur cyclists will compete in the 100K race through beautiful Beverly Hills/Morgan Park, one of Chicago's most historic, friendly and hilly residential neighborhoods (and just mere blocks away from where I grew up!)
