New handlebar & "finishing tapes" - a photo on Flickriver

            I admit it is not really necessary  for cotton bar tape.  But I was happy to discover this use for the plastic cores used on most cotton tape rolls.  Much cleaner look than the finishing tapes which come with most newer tape and which typically have gaudy promotional logos. The inner diameter of these plastic rings is only 27mm so not always useful.. but fine for most of my old handlebars. __ The tape is old (used) but this handlebar is new.  Although newly manufactured, the clamp diameter is 25.4mm to fit many conventional old stems but not the Italian brands like Cinelli and 3TTT.  Also it has a nice smooth polished then clear anodized finish at the center with no logo or ornamentation (sand blasted finish under the tape).  This fits in the Pivo stem seen here which I had modified from it's narrower original French standard opening of 25.0 mm.
