Portrait I did of my own vision of what I think the Roman Empress might have looked like. In order to make a person that no longer exists, and only effigies in coins and one portrait survive, I relied on Italian facial characteristics and structure of Italian women. In order to paint her, I used the facial features of not one but several Italian women. I had to combine them in such an order, scale, and artistic perception, in order to bring a good human face, rather than a Frankenstein due to the mixing. Her hair do, her necklace, and clothing pattern were directly grabbed from one of the surviving portraits of Galla Placidia. Another problem I had is that I didn't not wanted to have just another pretty woman's portrait, but rather that of a statewoman, of a leader, of a can-do woman. After all, she was the de facto ruler of the Roman Empire before and during her son's reign. Galla Placidia is my 45th great-grandmother.

Retrato que hice de como yo considero en mi vision pudo haber sido la Emperatriz Romana. Para hacer un retrato de una persona que ya no existe, y que solo le sobreviven efigies de su imagen en monedas y un retrato, me base en las caracteristicas y estructura faciales de mujeres italianas. Las tuve que combinar en tal orden, escala, y percepcion artistica, para que el resultado fuese una buen rostro humano, y no un frankenstein debido a la mezcla. El peinado que lleva en el retrato, su collar, y el patron de su ropa, fueron directamente obtenidos de uno de sus retratos que sobreviven. Otro problema que tuve que superar, era el hecho de que no queria obtener solo otra mujer bonita, sino un rostro de una verdadera estadista, de una lider, de una mujer capaz. Despues de todo, ella fue la gobernante de facto del Imperio Romano antes y durante el reinado de su hijo. Galla Placidia es mi 44ta bisabuela.
