Cidade histórica de Paraty - Rio de Janeiro - Brasil

Paraty ou Parati é um município brasileiro no Sul do estado do Rio de Janeiro, microrregião da Baía da Ilha Grande, mesorregião Sul Fluminense. É um dos pontos extremos do estado, pois assim como Porciúncula é o município mais setentrional, Paraty é o mais meridional, estando mais próxima ao Trópico de Capricórnio que qualquer outro município fluminense. Em Paraty localiza-se a praia mais austral do estado: A praia de trindade na Vila de Trindade e o seu ponto limítrofe com o estado de São Paulo, uma ponta rochosa junto ao mar denominada de: Cabeça do Índio.
Muito antiga para os padrões brasileiros, a cidade foi povoada entre 1533 e 1560, em 1667 teve sua emancipação política decretada pelo rei de Portugal, tornando-se uma vila independente de Angra dos Reis.
Junto ao oceano, entre dois rios, Paraty está a uma altitude média de apenas 5 metros. Hoje é o centro de um município com 930,7 km² com uma população de 33.062 habitantes (densidade demográfica: 35,6 h/km²).
A cidade já foi sede do mais importante porto exportador de ouro do Brasil, durante o período colonial.Fonte: Wikipédia
