Large hand-sized Pacific Banana Slug (Ariolimax columbianus - or is it Ariolimax californicus?)

We've been having Banana Slug weather!

This is a large hand-sized Pacific Banana Slug (Ariolimax columbianus - or is it Ariolimax californicus?) prowling through the woods. They're 6-8 inches long! This is the largest terrestrial mollusk in our mountains, and we only see them after rains. They have two pairs of retractile "feelers" on their heads. The upper pair have eye spots, while the lower air provides a tactile sense and smell. They move surprising fast. Oregon slugs look very different. (San Marcos Pass, 3 December 2012)

Today's photos are mostly slime molds surrounded by bookends of mollusks. The woods are coming alive after our recent drought.
