Vilnius Cathedral's Bell Tower - a photo on Flickriver

            The Belfry of Vilnius Cathedral is a detached tower situated several meters from the cathedral itself. This is one of the few examples of this kind of church layout outside of Italy. It is believed that the tower was part of the ancient city walls of the medieval Lower Castle, although only the lower parts date back to the Middle Ages. The upper parts were added in 18th century when the entire cathedral was reconstructed in the neo-classical style.
