Did you know there were Eastern Woodland Bison (Bos bison pennsylvanicus) too? They were a slightly maller species than the Great Plains Bison, and inhabited the land all across Wisconsin, Ohio,  Pennsylvania, and southwestern New York state,  down  through every sea board state into NW Florida.  They lived in every gulf state across into eastern  Texas before being exterminated by the conquering European settlers. This huge forest meadow herd grazer grazed along side the eastern elk.

The last woodland bison was last killed in Wisconsin in 1833.
