A visit to Deventer is not complete without taking a stroll or just relaxing by the riverside. A foot-passenger ferry can take you quickly across the river to a wonderful scenic area. On this side of the river one can also find an authentic windmill, De Bolwerksmolen. In 1861 the timber merchants the brothers Abraham and Frank Elfrink from the community of Deventer permission to build a saw mill on the stronghold. The construction of the mill began in 1863 and ended in 1895. The type is a reduction mill. This reduction mill is a windmill and in those days it was very useful for sawing wood. In 1955 the wings have been replaced, because it have been damaged by a storm. Also there was replaced a new theorem. After seizure in 1967 the mill gets even worse and the around standing houses get demolished. On initiative from an actiongroup - De Stichting Bolwerksmolen, who wanted to make the mill like it should be, have restored the mill in 1974. In September 2005 the restoration started and finished in 2007. Today the windmill returned to its good old shape and it still demonstrates the potential of green energy and the clever craftsmanship.

In 1861 kregen de houthandelaars de gebroeders Abraham en Frank Elfrink van de gemeente Deventer toestemming om op het Bolwerk een zaagmolen te bouwen. In 1863 werd de molen ingebruik gesteld. De Bolwerksmolen is een stellingmolen in Deventer op de westelijke oever van de IJssel, vlak bij de Wilhelminabrug. De molen werd gebouwd in 1863 gebouwd door de gebroeders Elfrink en heeft een achtkantige bovenkruier met stelling. De molen is in gebruik als zaagmolen. In 1955 heeft een storm het grootste deel van de molen verwoest. De eigenaar is sinds 1967 de gemeente Deventer. In het begin van de 21e eeuw bleek de molen dusdanig verzakt, dat een ingrijpende anderhalf jaar durende restauratie noodzakelijk was. De molen werd geheel gedemonteerd, heipalen werden in de grond gebracht en een nieuwe fundering geplaatst. Daarna kon de molen weer worden opgebouwd. Deze molen is de enige op wind werkende houtzaagmolen die de provincie Overijssel rijk is. Na veel restauraties pronkt het nu in de stad Deventer. Sinds voorjaar 2007 kan de molen zijn werk weer doen en draaien de wieken als vanouds. De Molenaar is Ber Fort.
