Giant square hockey puck - a photo on Flickriver

In 1886, the first organized, official game of hockey in Kingston, was a match between Queen's University and the Royal Military College; they used a square puck, as per the custom of the day, and there was no forward passing, according to their rules. This giant puck outside the International Hockey Hall of Fame commemorates that historic match. And every year, there is a round-robin series at the rink on Markey Square, continuing that rivalry, involving Queen's and RMC, and additionally, the 2nd Regiment of the RCHA from CFB Petawawa (because it was British soldiers stationed in Kingston who first played hockey here); tomorrow afternoon will be the 42nd annual edition of the series. Apparently they play it according to the 1880s rules.
