            I like making really long exposures.  I was making an image just yesterday that was 8-9 minutes in length (not this one, mind you) and it may have been the best 8-9 minutes of my day.  I set my camera up, double checked my math, screwed the filters into place, locked the shutter open and then set my timer.  What I did after that while waiting?  I laid back in the grass and closed my eyes and tried to feel the Earth spinning through the universe under me.  I'm not exaggerating, I really did lay there for almost ten minutes trying to feel for that.

There is a certain calm and peace I find in the middle of these exposures, as if some driving purpose in me is calmed for a few minutes at least and I can cast my mind afar, wondering at the simple complexities of the world, of life, of the nature of time and so on. Sometimes, like my camera, I just sit there and watch the sun and clouds move, in that barely perceptible fashion they follow.

I enjoy those moments.  A lot.
