The Great East Window - a photo on Flickriver

            Last one from Gloucester Cathedral and this is a shot of the Quire and Great East Window.

This stunning stained glass window is the size of a tennis court and was made in the 14th century, the colourful glass reflects the hierarchical nature of medieval society as well as the Church’s interpretation of the Divine Order.

Over the six centuries of its existence, the window has survived all the events of history and remains in good condition. It was dismantled for safety during World War II and underwent conservation work in the year 2000.

It's a stunning piece of craftsmanship and if you take a wander up to the Tribune Gallery while you're in the cathedral you can get up quite close to look at all the detail
