La Chua Trail - Flight Formation - a photo on Flickriver

Literally, thousands of Sandhill Cranes came south to Paynes Prairie and the surrounding fields in Gainesville for the Winter. It may have been a record. Over 5,000 Cranes were counted.
What a great sight to see these birds and to hear them. Their honking can be heard for miles. I can't wait to see them again.
I caught them just as they were beginning to take to the sky. On the La Chua Trail in Paynes Prairie in January of 2009.

The La Chua Trail is quite unique in that we are the visitors to a home filled with local and visiting wildlife. On any given day you can witness alligators, horses, buffalo, turtles, deer, snakes, fish, rabbits, mice, and an all around great variety of local and visiting birds. What a gem of nature right here in our backyard.
