Cuillin (Commended - Scottish Landscape Photographer of the Year 2015)

            I've had a number of images of the Cuillin in my archives for a few years now, wondering how I can portray the drama and majesty of the range in a somewhat different way. Colour doesn't really do it justice and a simple conversion to mono didn't seem to do the trick either. Then I hit on the idea of increasing the contrast to the point where the blacks almost (important that....almost) blocked out and the whites shone bright, giving the impression that the peaks are bathed in light while the rest is in shadow. The effect is almost graphic but you're left in no doubt what it is you are looking at.
