Late Afternoon Encounter - a photo on Flickriver

            Lions are perhaps the most iconic African animal, but their numbers have plummeted by as much as 90% over the past century- mostly as a result of habitat loss, and hunting(both legal and illegal). 

Unfortunately, South Africa permits the awful lion farming and canned hunting industries to thrive, industries which affect thousands of animals in the country. This beautiful lion was from Kruger National Park in 2014. While I love the landscapes and wildlife of South Africa,  I will be taking my safari dollars to Kenya until lions are properly protected in South Africa.
