2025.09.04.086 COIMBRA - Praça 8 de maio. Église du monastère Santa Cruz. (1501 Style manuélin)

            Le monastère de la Sainte-Croix ( Mosteiro de Santa Cruz) fut fondé au XIIe siècle par les Chanoines réguliers de la Sainte-Croix,  il fut reconstruit au XVIe siècle dans le style manuélin.
L'ancienne église romane fut construite entre 1132 et 1228 ; il n'en reste aujourd'hui rien, à l'instar du couvent d'origine. 
À partir de 1507, le roi Manuel Ier fit reconstruire le monastère, alors en ruine, dans le style qui prit plus tard son nom.
Il chargea l'architecte français Nicolas de Chantereine (ou Nicolau de Chanterene) de reconstruire les tombeaux des rois déjà inhumés dans l'ancienne église.  
La façade de l'église a été construite en deux phases. Les deux imposantes tours ont été érigées entre 1507 et 1513. Le portail a été conçu par le maître d'œuvre João de Castilho et achevé entre 1522 et 1526 par Nicolas de Chantereine.

The Monastery of Santa Cruz (Mosteiro de Santa Cruz) was founded in the 12th century by the Canons Regular of the Holy Cross and rebuilt in the 16th century in the Manueline style.
The old Romanesque church was built between 1132 and 1228; nothing remains of it today, nor of the original convent. 
From 1507 onwards, King Manuel I had the monastery, which was in ruins at the time, rebuilt in the style that later took his name.
He commissioned the French architect Nicolas de Chantereine (or Nicolau de Chanterene) to rebuild the tombs of the kings already buried in the old church.  
The façade of the church was built in two phases. The two imposing towers were erected between 1507 and 1513. The portal was designed by master builder João de Castilho and completed between 1522 and 1526 by Nicolas de Chantereine.
