            Parangtritis Beach, Beauty Enclosed in Mystery.

Parangtritis Beach is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the southern region of Java. This beach is located in Bantul district and not so far from the city of Yogyakarta. Besides being known for its large waves, Parangtritis Beach is also often associated with the story of Nyi Roro Kidul which is synonymous with mystery and mythical stories circulating among the local community.
The phenomena and mysteries that emerged from the Nyi Roro Kidul story seemed to never end. The story of Nyi Roro Kidul is well known to the people of Indonesia, especially in the middle of Javanese society. Talking about the mystery of Parangtritis Beach, of course we already know the myth about Nyi Roro Kidol who is enthroned in the south of Java Island.

Historically, the naming of Parangtritis Beach originated from an escapee from the Majapahit kingdom who came to a large choppy sea area and that was where he meditated. It turns out that there is a lot of water that is "tumaritis" or dripping from crevices of coral reefs so that he named the place Parangtritis, which means water that drips from crevices of rock.

The kingdoms of old also turned out to believe in the existence of this Southern Queen. Javanese kings are believed to have a relationship with Nyi Roro Kidul. Reportedly this relationship began with the meditation of Panembahan Senopati, founder of the Islamic Mataram kingdom who met with Nyi Roro Kidul while meditating in the southern sea. The relationship that was built from him resulted in a promise from Nyi Roro Kidul who would help and keep in touch with the descendants of Panembahan Senopati.

We may have heard this appeal when we were going to Parangtritis Beach. There is a myth that is believed that the green color is the favorite color of Nyi Roro Kidul and the color of his army clothing, so many people believe that we will be carried by the waves when swimming at the beach when wearing green clothes. There are also other myths about this green color. That said, Nyi Roro Kidul has a loyal servant named Nyai or Nyi Rara Kidul. He likes the color green and is believed to like taking people who wear green to be his servants and troops. Therefore, people are prohibited from wearing green clothes when traveling in the south of Java, including on the southern coast of Yogyakarta.
