1973 Fiat 130 Coupe - a photo on Flickriver

1973 Fiat 130 Coupe

            This was one of the exhibits at the Footman James Classic Car Show Manchester at EventCity in September 2018. There was a note in the side window of the car which read as follows:

'FIAT 130 COUPE
In 1971 Paulo Martin of Pininfarina designed the Fiat 130
Coupe (it is said at the behest of Fiat CEO Gianni Agnelli).
This design is said to have inspired the shape of future
Ferrari 365 and Rolls Royce Camargue model (also Paulo
Martin designs).The 3.2 litre, 6 cylinder twin OHC engine
was the work of Ferrari master engineer, Aurelio Lampredi.

These elegant and luxurious coupes, of which 4492 were
built, were usually fitted with Borg Warner, 3-speed
automatic gearboxes. However, approx. 900 of them had 5-
speed ZF gearboxes fitted.

Although Fiat’s reputation was built as an economy car
producer this model was more expensive to purchase than
a Porsche 911 of this period and remains an impressive car
and status symbol of that era.

The 1974 fuel crisis sealed the fate of this thirsty luxury
coupe along with many of its rivals such as Iso Rivolta, Facel
Vega, Jensen and Citroen SM.

For cycling aficionados a 130 Coupe was Eddie Merckx’s
company car during his Fiat sponsorship era.'
