Die Fachwerkständer des schlicht gehaltenen Gebäudes gehen bis zum Dach durch und sind so ein Zeugnis dieser sehr alten Fachwerkbauform.

The half-timbered posts of the simple building extend all the way to the roof and are thus a testimony to this very old type of half-timbered construction.

Die um das Jahr 1200 gegründete Stadt Blankenburg (Harz) liegt dicht am Nordrand des Harzes in etwa 234 m Höhe. Die Herzöge zu Braunschweig-Lüneburg machten den Ort im 17. Jahrhundert zu einer Nebenresidenz, die ihre Blütezeit (1690–1731) unter Herzog Ludwig Rudolf hatte. Rudolf erhielt Blankenburg 1707 als Paragium. Gleichzeitig wurde die Grafschaft Blankenburg zu einem Reichsfürstentum erhoben und bis 1731 selbständig regiert, dann aber durch Ludwig Rudolf wieder mit Braunschweig vereint. Durch die fürstliche Förderung von Berg- und Hüttenwesen erlebte die Stadt auch einen wirtschaftlichen Aufschwung. Unter Ludwig Rudolf wurden viele repräsentative Gebäude und Anlagen geschaffen.

The town of Blankenburg (Harz), founded around 1200, is situated close to the northern edge of the Harz mountains at an altitude of about 234 metres. The Dukes of Brunswick-Luneburg made the town a secondary residence in the 17th century, which had its heyday (1690-1731) under Duke Ludwig Rudolf. Rudolf received Blankenburg as a paragium in 1707. At the same time the county of Blankenburg was raised to an imperial principality and ruled independently until 1731, when it was reunited with Brunswick by Ludwig Rudolf. The princely promotion of mining and metallurgy also gave the town an economic upswing. Under Ludwig Rudolf many representative buildings and facilities were built.
