'GUTTATION.'

Certain fungi have the curious habit of exuding beads of liquid either on their caps or stems. This phenomenon is called guttation and is better recognised in some species of vascular plant. During the night a plant's transpiration system shuts down and the pressure from excess moisture in it's roots forces beads of sap out of it's leaf margins.

in fungi, the guttation mechanism is not so well understood but it seems to occur after the rapid growth of a fruiting body, when both temperature and humidity are favourable. 

Guttation is very, very common in Wrinkled Peach fungus ... so much so that it is cited as an important identification feature in field guides. My image of the underside of two mature fruiting bodies shows guttation on their stems, a plentiful array of amber and pale orange droplets. You can appreciate why their presence is deemed such a key feature.
