Why should I waste money painting the whole store?

SET 1 – Oxford Kroger, Post-Expansion

Here’s the other of those two peeks into the old side of the store that I mentioned. Notice something particular about this image? If it’s that it looks a lot like we’re standing in the dark side of the Krusty Krab, you got it! I’ve discussed previously how the new-construction portion of the building received a black ceiling, which is not my favorite; in my opinion it makes the place seem overly dark and even more warehouse-y than an open ceiling already is. To my surprise, the ceiling in the existing portion of the building got to remain as-is rather than receiving a coat of black paint, which certainly helps to feel that part of the store – housing the grocery aisles as opposed to the service departments – feel much brighter, and in a way also makes sense as the delineation between those two separate environments as I just mentioned (grand aisle vs. center-store). Based on my experience with other Kroger remodel-expansion projects, I know that that’s just a coincidence – that is, only the new-construction ceiling is painted, while the old stuff remains as-is, no matter the delineation – but the location of the split at least works out in Oxford’s favor here.
