Punte romano de Alardos - a photo on Flickriver

            Madrigal de La Vera (Cáceres).

También conocido como el “Puente Viejo”, situado en la garganta de Alardos, recibe aguas de la Sierra de Gredos y une en la actualidad las provincias de Cáceres y Ávila. En época romana, según parece, era el puente más importante de esta zona, ya que no hay registros de un puente de similares características. Por aquí discurría la calzada romana que subía al Puerto del Pico, en Ávila y que unía las dos mesetas. Tiene dos arcos, aunque uno de ellos hoy en día está tapado con piedras, quedando únicamente el principal, por donde fluye el agua hasta llegar al río Tiétar más adelante. La altura del punto más elevado, según aparece en el cartel informativo junto al puente, es de 16 metros. Este puente fue reconstruido en el siglo XVIII.
La calzada, de piedra granítica, mide 3 metros de ancho y está en pendiente por ambos lados, haciendo que en el medio del puente sea la altura máxima.
