Is it Vegas? DSC_7114 - a photo on Flickriver

            The red-shouldered hawk population seems to be rather fantastic in my neck of the woods.  Of course, many of you already know that I have named them all Elvis.  Partially because I can't tell the difference between Elvis and Priscilla.  And partially because when the RSH's would leave the yard I would say in my head "Elvis has left the yard". Therefore, the songbirds were free to roam about again.  

Anyway, there are lots and lots of Elvis' doing flybys these days.  It reminds me of all of the Elvis impersonators jumping out of an airplane in a movie I saw many years ago. I believe that movie was Honeymoon in Vegas with Nick Cage and Sarah Jessica Parker.  But I'm not 100% sure about that, it was long, long ago.    

This beautiful Elvis stopped by while I was out with the camera yesterday.  He stayed a while and watched me a bit while hunting for a snack.  He didn't seem to mind as I clicked the camera since it was pointed at different things in the yard.  In an effort to try and get at least one Elvis to be as friendly as the one that used to visit, I pretended not to notice him.   I just clicked at dead flowers (The SOS theme is dead or dying flowers this week).  Yes, there are dead flowers in the yard, it is winter after all, and everything blooms in cycles.  

Anyway, we glanced at one another on and off for a bit of time, then I took a chance and pointed the camera at him.  He didn't seem to mind at all as he went about his business.  He even let me move closer and click.  This is one of the closer clicks.  Before I moved, I couldn't see his whole self.  Alas, he found something in the neighbor's yard, and off he went to the ground.  

I am delighted to have been granted permission to take a few images.  Hopefully, we can be friends and he will visit more often.  Still, he must follow the rules.  Most importantly #1.  Songbirds are not on the menu, especially the blue ones.  Technically, I suppose I should review those rules myself.  It's been a while since I have had a friendly Elvis visit.
