Autumn still life

            In our part of the world, late autumn is a time of transition from the vibrant colours and sounds of summer to stillness and peace, muted tones and the complex textures of shrubs and trees, now bare of their foliage.  I love this somewhat melancholy time of year, with its scent of fallen leaves, frosty mornings and mild afternoons.  

This stand of cattails provided a splash of warm colour in an otherwise grey shoreline, throwing reflections into the dark, still water of Jimsmith Lake.
