() NORFOLK ISLAND

            Norfolk Island, - Kingston Pier. 
 The now derelict boats shown here were once used to transfer cargo from freighters that serve the island that are forced to anchor approximatly  a kilometre offshore. Similar sized boats are still in use. The vessels can carry anything from small containers to buses, two boats being lashed together to move the larger items. Quite a feat.
The story goes that the only items lost between ship and shore in recent years were some poker machines. Islanders didn't want them on Norfolk but someone persisted. The first two somehow went swimming and somehow the replacements met the same fate. There are no poker machines on Norfolk Island!!
