Primavera, Estate, Autunno, Inverno - Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter

            Il ponte Santa Trinita venne costruito la prima volta nel 1252 con il patrocinio della famiglia Frescobaldi. Era di legno e crollò nel 1259 sotto il peso della folla che assisteva ad uno spettacolo sull’Arno. Venne riedificato in pietra ma crollò una prima volta sotto la spinta della piena del 1333 e poi della nuova alluvione del 1557. Cosimo I de’Medici incaricò allora Bartolomeo Ammannati affinché costruisse un nuovo ponte più resistente e più bello, degno delle vie che collega, via Tornabuoni e via Maggio, dove si erano stabilite molte famiglie nobili della corte medicea. La progettazione durò 10 anni, con la collaborazione dello stesso Michelangelo, il quale suggerì la forma ellittica delle tre arcate a catenaria rovesciata, cioè la curva che disegna una catena sospesa ai suoi capi per due punti. Nel 1608 ai quattro angoli del ponte furono collocate le statue allegoriche delle quattro stagioni. Il ponte ( come tutti gli altri ponti di Firenze, escluso Ponte Vecchio) fu distrutto dai tedeschi in ritirata il 4 agosto 1944. Venne ricostruito come era e dove era e venne inaugurato nel 1958. Le quattro statue vennero ripescate in Arno, ma alla statua della Primavera mancava la testa. Si dovette aspettare il 1961 quando fortunosamente venne ritrovata nel letto del fiume da alcuni renaioli, ponendo così fine ad anni di ricerche e lunghe discussioni su come rimpiazzarla.
