My favourite 'little' bird... - a photo on Flickriver

            ... because you all know my fav 'big' one is the eagle... even if I only saw my first one last fall.  I hope they return...I am on eagle watch.... it was October 12, 2021 when I spotted the female eagle for the first time.
These little cuties have been around the yard most of the summer, with the exception of the extremely hot days ...  although, even then, they do show up for water on occasion.
We have a bird bath and a fountain.. they come by to play in both of them.   They even try to swim around in the tiny trays of the fountain...and, love to drink from it; taking the tiniest of sips.  Sometimes they duck their little heads under the waterfall as it goes from the top to the second and also a third tier of trays which the water tumbles out of ..and, into the next...... they love it.
They buzz bomb me as I work in the garden... cheekily squeaking at me and hoping I'll put out a few little sunflower seeds for them.  Of course, I do.  Who could resist these little guys? 
They just got over the moult stage a week ago... the new brighter feathers are growing in ..ready for the colder weather. 
They are pretty brave now. ... even when we are sitting in the patio...they fly up and down from the big overhanging lilac bush and play in the fountain... they flit about 'chick-a-dee-dee-ing' and making many different little sounds that are fun to hear.  Who knew they had such a repertoire? ... 
They'll be here all winter... looking for handouts and entertaining us.... the robins and crows are busy testing short flights and getting ready to leave for some southern states like Kansas and Oklahoma...what a long flight they'll have to make.  
We'll miss them and their antics over the miserable winter months ...but, almost wish the little chickadees would go with them..so they could be somewhere warmer ... -35C is ridiculous for the little birds to try to survive around here.
