Aptura iris - a photo on Flickriver

Aptura iris

            Purple Emperor
Großer Schillerfalter

In meiner Gegend ist der große Schillerfalter zum Glück nicht so selten.
In jedem Wald rund um meine Heimatstadt, egal im Osten, Süden, Norden oder Westen, überall konnte ich diese Art nachweisen. Sei es auch nur durch Fraßspuren der Raupe oder durch Eifunde.
Am schönsten sind natürlich die Männchen, wenn sie mit geöffneten Flügel dasitzen und der blaue Schillerglanz sie zum Leuchten bringt.

In manchen Teilen Deutschlands ist er selten geworden durch das rigorose Entfernen der Weichhölzer in den Forsten.
Dabei ist die Raupe dieses Schmetterlings auf das Vorkommen von Weiden, ganz besonders der Salweide (Salix caprea) angewiesen.
