Arbutus Beauty...reaching for the light.

            A beautiful Arbutus tree stretching into the sunset vista overlooking Saanich Inlet, Gowlland Tod Provincial Park, Vancouver Island, BC.

Arbutus is the only native broadleaf evergreen tree in Canada with rich orange-red bark that when mature naturally peels away in thin sheets, leaving a greenish, silvery appearance that has a satin sheen and smoothness. Arbutus trees are generally found on sunny exposed rocky bluffs or hills with little moisture, often in coastal areas in proximity to the ocean.
