La basilica cattedrale della Trasfigurazione, conosciuta più semplicemente come il Duomo di Cefalù è la chiesa più importante della cittadina normanna.
Secondo la leggenda la sua costruzione fu voluta dal re di Sicilia Ruggero II d'Altavilla quando, nel 1131 si trovava in viaggio per mare verso Palermo, la sua nave si imbattè in una violenta tempesta rischiando di affondare; quindi facendo un voto al Santissimo Salvatore, prometteva nelle sue preghiere di costruire un chiesa nel punto in cui avresse toccato terra. 
Ruggero II e la sua nave riuscirono a salvarsi approdando tra le spiagge di una cittadina del Nord della Sicilia chiamata Cefalù.
Il duomo ha degli stili romanici, siculo-normanni e bizantini, è stato completato e consacrato oltre un secolo dopo, nel 1240, da Federico II di Svevia.


The Cathedral of the Transfiguration, known more simply as the Cathedral of Cefalù, is the most important church in the Norman town.
According to legend, its construction was commissioned by the king of Sicily Roger II of Altavilla when, in 1131 he was traveling by sea to Palermo, his ship ran into a violent storm and risked sinking; then making a vow to the Most Holy Savior, he promised in his prayers to build a church where he landed.
Roger II was saved by landing on the beaches of a town in the north of Sicily called Cefalù. 
The temple, which has Romanesque, Sicilian-Norman and Byzantine styles, was completed and consecrated over a century later, in 1240, by Frederick II of Swabia.
