We Are All Alone! Really??? - #12 on explore

            When we look at a starred sky like this one we have to question ourselves on whether we are effectively alone in the universe. There are simply too many stars for that to be true. There has got to be intelligent life somewhere out there…
This Milky Way shot was taken last year, on my first foray into the realms of astrophotography. It was taken at 4.00am on a pitch dark, new moon night, at Dark Sky Alqueva (Alentejo, Portugal), Europe’s certified biggest (and best) dark sky reserve. The flooded area resulting from the construction of the Alqueva dam originated the largest artificial lake in Europe and the inexistence of sizable cities or even small villages in its surroundings, created ideal conditions for astrophotography. In fact. it is considered to be the darkest area in Europe.
